STAVANGER, Norway – The first subsea compressor train for the Åsgard field offshore mid-Norway has rolled out from Aker Solutions’ factory in Egersund, Norway, for transport northward.
Operator Statoil says a large subsea template, pipelines, umbilicals, and power cables are already installed at the location in the Norwegian Sea in water depth of around 300 m (984 ft). The subsea template is ready to receive two identical compressor trains next year, each comprising 11 modules that will be installed individually.
A third train will be kept onshore in Kristiansund as back-up should any problems arise with a module on the seabed.
The compressor at the heart of the first compressor train is currently submerged in a test pool at Statoil’s center in Kårstø, in operating
conditions similar to those anticipated at the seafloor at Åsgard.
The compressor train modules have been tested prior to installation to ensure that they are compatible and intercommunicate properly, with strict check lists and control procedures applied, according to project manager Torstein Vinterstø.
Statoil expects the technology to help extract an additional 282 MMboe from the Midgard and Mikkel reservoirs, in part by placing thesubsea compressors as close to the reservoirs as possible.
