PSA approves Kristin drilling program offshore Norway

Statoil has Petroleum Safety Authority Norway’s consent to use the semisubmersible Scarabeo 5 for plugging and production drilling on the Kristin field.

OSLO, Norway – Statoil has Petroleum Safety Authority Norway’s consent to use the semisubmersible Scarabeo 5 for plugging and production drilling on the Kristin field.

Kristin is in blocks 6406/2 and 6506/11 in the Haltenbanken region of the Norwegian Sea.

Statoil intends to plug well 6406/2-R-4 BHT2 permanently and simultaneously drill a new production well (6406/2-R-4-CH) as a side track from the well being plugged.

Water depth at the location is 355 m (1,165 ft). In total the planned program is estimated to last 138 days.

In the North Sea, the semisubTransocean Arctic will P&A Lundin Petroleum’s well 33/2-1 on license PL555.

This was designed to probe the potential of theStorm prospect, 65 km (40 mi) northwest of the Snorre field. The well encountered sub-commercial hydrocarbons in Cretaceous and Jurassic reservoir sequences.
