LONDON – The government of Nova Scotia has contracted Petrofac to help identify the best means of exploiting the eastern Canadian province’s ultra-deepwater oil potential.
Petrofac will undertake a development study for a prospective oil reservoir in 2,000 m (6,562 ft) of water and 3,000 m (9,842 ft) beneath the seabed. The company’ssubsea engineering business, K W Subsea, will lead the multi-disciplinary project, which will also involve teams from Petrofac’s Engineering & Consulting Services division.
Inter-group support will range from process design, naval architecture, subsea engineering, and cost estimation to the drilling scope. All work should be completed in early 2015.
The government of Nova Scotia estimates the province’s potential offshore resources at around 120 tcf of natural gas and 8 Bbbl of oil, and has already awarded blocks toShell and BP with combined exploration commitments exceeding $2 billion.
