DUBLIN, Ireland – Polarcus has completed a 3D seismic survey for Providence Resources over the Drombeg oil exploration prospect offshore southwest Ireland.

The location is in frontier exploration license (FEL) 2/14 in the southern Porcupine basin, offshore southwest Ireland.

Polarcus conducted the program in partnership with ION GeoVentures, with the 3D seismic vesselPolarcus Amani towing an “ultra-wide” 1,350-m (4,429-ft) receiver array comprising 10 2Hz solid digital streamers, each 8,100 m (26,575 ft) long.

This spread, towed at 14 m (46 ft) to maximize weather uptime, allowed the vessel to cover 4,300 sq km (1,660 sq mi) in 73 days in a rough environment.

Aside from Drombeg, the multi-client survey extended across open acreage on offer under Ireland’s 2015 Atlantic Margin Oil and Gas Exploration Licensing Round. Final data is expected to be available next March, with license applications due to close on Sept. 16, 2015.

In addition, Polarcus and ION GeoVentures have teamed with SeaBird to acquire up to 6,600 km (4,101 mi) of regional 2D MC data across the entire basin. This will include Providence’sNewgrange exploration prospect in FEL 6/14 in the Goban Spur basin, again off the southwest coast.
