DUBLIN, Ireland – Polarcus will acquire a 3D seismic survey offshore southwest Ireland this summer for Providence Resources.

The non-exclusive survey, in the southern Porcupine basin, will cover the deepwaterDrombeg exploration prospect in frontier exploration license (FEL) 2/14, 220 km (137 mi) from the west coast.

Providence and Sosina recently converted licensing option (LO) 11/9 to exploration status.

Polarcus’ program, to be performed by one of the company’s “A” class vessels, will extend over a minimum of 3,200 sq km (1,235 sq mi), of which around 1,065 sq km (411 sq mi) relates to the Drombeg license.

John O’Sullivan, Providence’s technical director, said: “We expect that these new high resolution 3D data over our Drombeg prospect will confirm the potential which has been identified within the Lower Cretaceous section and will allow for the commencement of well planning on Drombeg.

“These data will also allow us to evaluate the potential in the stacked Jurassic and Paleocene levels where significant addition exploration prospectivity has been identified.”

Polarcus previously acquired 3D data offshore Ireland for Providence in 2011 over theBarryroe and Spanish Point North blocks.
