DUBLIN, Ireland – Appraisal drilling of the Spanish Point discovery offshore western Ireland has been postponed until 2015.

The semisubmersibleBlackford Dolphin was due to drill the well for operator Capricorn Ireland this summer. However, the need for the rig to undergo extended refurbishment meant it would not have been available until October, therefore pushing drilling into the winter period.

Capricorn, a subsidiary of Cairn Energy, has cancelled the rig contract and is negotiating for a replacement rig to perform the work program next year.

Subject to regulatory approval, an extensive 3D seismic acquisition survey will go ahead this summer over blocks 35/13, 35/14, 35/15, 35/18, and 35/19 in the FEL 1/14 (Spanish Point South) license.
