HOUSTON– Artificial Lift Co. (ALC) has deployed its Advantage electrical submersible pump (ESP) system for Total E&P Congo in the Republic of Congo.

The rigless system was installed, conveyed, and retrieved on a System Integration Test water well near the Djeno terminal. Total will now include the Advantage system in future wells offshore. All of Total E&P Congo’s production comes from offshore, and the majority requires secondary lift.

A downside of using an ESP is the need for frequent intervention and the limitation of having workover vessels available offshore. The Advantage slickline-conveyed, rigless ESP system reduces intervention time, intervention cost, and production downtime because of the lack of rig availability and mobilization – thus, the system reduces OPEX, increases well up-time, reduces production deferment, and can be a step-change in the way new fields are developed.
