LONDON – The drillship Stena DrillMax is P&A’ing Tullow Oil’s latest deepwater exploration well offshore Mauritania.

Tullow reported the Tapendar-1 exploration well in the C-10 license has not encountered hydrocarbons. Tapendar-1 was drilled to test two Miocene and Upper Cretaceous targets. Neither, however, delivered hydrocarbons.

The earlierFrégate-1 well was a discovery, but probably sub-commercial.

The partners will analyze and integrate the results into existing seismic before determining locations for future wells targeting conventional oil plays.

The company saysseismic acquisition will continue this year over offshore Mauritania blocks C-3 and C-18.
