ABERDEEN, UK -- The semisub Borgland Dolphin has started Wintershall’s newest exploration well in the Norwegian Sea, on the Solberg prospect.

Well 6407/1-7 on license PL475 on the Halten Terrace will assess the lateral extent and size of Wintershall’s lower Cretaceous Rodriguez field.

A well in the same place last January encountered moveable hydrocarbons in sandstone layers in the Lange formation. Wintershall estimated recoverable volumes at 19-126 MMboe.

Location of the current well is 4 km (2.5 mi) northeast of the producing Tyrihans field and 8 km (4.9 mi) southeast of the 2010 Maria discovery.
