ABERDEEN, UKFaroe Petroleum expects to participate in six exploration wells offshore northwest Europe, with drilling due to start in the second half of this year.

Snilehorn is a satellite to the Njord field in the Norwegian Sea. The semisubmersible Songa Trym will target oil and gas in the Lower Jurassic Tilje and Åre formations, similar to those in the Njord reservoirs. Statoil will operate the well and subsequent side track, 4 km (2.5 mi) from Njord. A find at Snilehorn could be quickly tied into the new Hyme oil field facilities, with a potential production start in 2015/2016.

Faroe will operate a well on the Novus structure on the Halten Terrace in the Norwegian Sea, using the drillshipWest Navigator. The location is 10 km (6.2 mi) southwest of the Statoil-operated Heidrun oil field. Main targets are Jurassic reservoirs of the Garn, Ile, and Tilje formations.

Centrica’s Butch East and Butch South West wells will be follow-ups to the 2011Butch discovery, which opened a new oil play in the North Sea. The wells will be drilled back to back by the Maersk Giant. The location is in range of production infrastructure serving the Ula, Tambar, and Gyda field.

The semisubmersibleBorgland Dolphin will drill a well on the Cretaceous Solberg structure on the Halten Terrace in the Norwegian Sea for operator Wintershall. This will appraise the lateral extent and size of this January’s Lower Cretaceous Rodriguez discovery, where moveable hydrocarbons were encountered in sandstone layers in the Lange formation.

In the same region, theTransocean Arctic will drill VNG’s well on the Upper Jurassic Pil prospect, south of the producing Njord and Draugen fields. The well will test a combined structural and stratigraphic closure, with the primary target at the shallower upper Jurassic Rogn sandstone. This is the same setting for Norske Hydro’s Draugen 60 km (37 mi) to the northeast. Pil is 33 km (20.5 mi) from Njord in which Faroe has a 7.5% interest.

AtHyme, which came onstream in February, preparations are in hand to start water injection that is expected to enhance field performance.

In the UK southern North Sea, Faroe adds, in-fill well 44/26a-SAM is being drilled on the Schooner gas field and is expected on production this fall. At the Orca field, the normally unattended minimum facilities platform has been fabricated and is expected to be installed later this summer. Work will start soon on the development well.
