STAVANGER, Norway -- Statoil has awarded DNV GL UK a third party Independent Competent Person (ICP) contract for the Mariner heavy oil project in the UK northern North Sea.

This involvesensuring compliance with UK offshore regulations.

It follows two years’ of front-end engineering support to Statoil in developing performance standards and the Written Scheme of Examination (WSE) under the UK offshore safety case regulations forthe platform, subsea facilities, and floating storage unit.

Mariner is around 150 km (93 mi) east of the Shetland Isles. It is due to enter production in January 2017 and to remain in service for 30 years, with average oil production of around 55,000 b/d during the plateau period from 2017-2020.

DNV GL’s offices worldwide will work on the program, although most of the design review work will be handled in London where the three main design subcontractors are based.

Hari Vamadevan, regional manager UK and Southern Africa said: “The commercial and technical support teams in the UK and Korea worked hard to explain to all the project stakeholders the role of ICP and Class in UK waters which was critical to securing the contract.”
