DUBLIN, IrelandProvidence Resources has updated its program for the Barryroe oil field offshore southern Ireland.

Ireland’s government has agreed to extend the area of the surrounding standard exploration license (SEL) 1/11 by 180 sq km (69 sq mi) for first-phase commitments. This takes into account potential extensions of Barryroe to the south and southeast.

The acreage is in around 100 m (328 ft) of water in the North Celtic Sea basin, 50 km (31 mi) offshore County Cork.

Providence’s technical director John O’Sullivan said: “The granting of an increase in the areal extent of SEL 1/11 recognizes the potential significant volumetric upside that exists at Barryroe. The structural closure as mapped now appears to extend further to the south and southeast, however no wells have been drilled as yet to confirm any such extensions to the field area.”
