Storage centers secured for southern Black Sea pipeline

VARNA, BulgariaSouth Stream Transport has signed an option agreement to store and handle pipe segments at the Bulgarian ports of Varna East and West and Burgas.

TheSouth Stream offshore pipeline system, taking gas to southeast Europe from fields onshore Russia, will comprise four parallel pipelines through the Black Sea, each containing more than 75,000 pipe segments.

During construction, all three designated Bulgarian ports may be used for marshalling yards and related logistics services for between four and six years.

Georges Dereliev, executive director of Maritime Port Bourgas EAD, said: “The Port of Burgas is the deepest port in Bulgaria and has an excellent technical infrastructure for the implementation of the offshore part of the South Streamoffshore pipeline.”
