Offshore staff
AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands– South Stream Transport B.V.’s board has approved signing of pipe supply contracts for the first of four gas lines to be laid across the southern Black Sea.
Construction of South Stream’s onshore section in Russia started late last year. The offshore section will run for 931 km (578 mi) between the Russkaya compressor station on the Russian coast and a landfall point on the Bulgarian coast.
From there, the gas will head through a new onshore pipeline system to Croatia, crossing the Adriatic Sea to a reception station in eastern Italy. It will have annual throughput capacity of 63 bcm (2.22 tcf).
South Stream Transport plans to sign contracts tomorrow for procurement of around 75,000 pipes for the offshore section, with a diameter of 813 mm (32 in.) and a wall thickness of 39 mm (1.53 in.).
Soon afterward, the company will invite bids for supplying pipes for the second offshore line. The board hopes to conclude the offshore construction contracts by the end of March.
South Stream is due to come onstream in late 2015.
