ABERDEEN, UK – The semisubmersible Transocean Arctic has spudded the Pil exploration well, 33 km (20.5 mi) from the Njord complex in the Norwegian Sea. VNG is operator of the well in license PL 596.
According to partnerFaroe Petroleum, Pil is a combined structural and stratigraphic closure. The prime target is the shallower upper Jurassic Rogn formation sandstone which has proven an effective reservoir in Norske Shell’s Draugen field, 60 km (37 mi) to the northeast.
Elsewhere in the Norwegian sector, Faroe is participating in current wells on the Butch East prospect in the southernNorwegian North Sea and on Novus, close to the Heidrun oil field in the Haltenbanken region.
It will then co-fund wells on the Solberg and Butch South West prospects.
