OSLO, Norway – TAQA Bratani has started production from the Cormorant East oil field in the UK northern North Sea.

The field, formerly known as Contender, wasdiscovered last October with a well on block 211/22a. Delivery of oil 85 days after the discovery sets a new benchmark for the UK continental shelf, according to partner Bridge (OSE:BRIDGE;AIM: BRDG.L).

Production is processed on the North Cormorant platform, 3.5 km (2.2 mi) to the southwest, before export to the Sullom Voe terminal on Shetland.

Initially, Cormorant East is being produced under primary depletion with a single production well fitted with an electric submersible pump. Production data from this phase will help determine whether further development by adding a water injection well is warranted.

TAQA’s analysis of field data suggests upside potential. Further appraisal drilling locations have been identified within the Cormorant East development area, downdip from the existing well and in adjacent fault panels.
