ABERDEEN, UK – TAQA Bratani has discovered oil in the Contender prospect in the UK northern North Sea.

Well 211/21-N94 was drilled on block 211/22a [Contender area] from the company’s North Cormorant platform to the southwest. It will likely be developed as “Cormorant East,” with production processed through the platform.

The well encountered oil in-place of 10-30 MMbbl in the targeted Jurassic Brent (Tarbert) sandstones. According to partner Bridge Energy, early analysis indicates an oil- bearing reservoir of more than 65 ft (19.8 m), with greater than expected porosity and hydrocarbon saturation. Reservoir evaluation continues.

Leo Koot, managing director ofTAQA Bratani Ltd., said: “This project underpins our commitment to realize the full potential from our acreage. The exploration of near-field potential close to operated fields has benefitted from good co-operation between TAQA and the Department of Energy and Climate Change, and we look forward to working with our partners to further explore the reservoir.”
