NORTH SYDNEY, Australia – Premier Oil and Origin have contracted the Ocean General rig to drill two wells offshore Vietnam.

PanPacific Petroleum, a partner in both wells, has updated theplanned programs.

In offshore block 07/03, the rig will drill Ca Duc-1 as the remaining commitment exploration well in May or June, depending upon release of the rig from anassignment offshore Indonesia.

The partners continue to assess whether additional appraisal drilling is needed to resolve uncertainties over reserves in the Cá Rồng Đỏ (CRD) oil and gas/condensate discovery.

Subject to PetroVietnam’s approval, one of theOcean General’s slots could be used this year for a CRD appraisal well.

In offshore block 121, Origin plans to spud a well on the large Ca Voi (Whale) prospect in April.

PetroVietnam had granted the joint venture partners a one-year extension to the first exploration phase, with no suitable rigs available at the intended time.
