Lundin cleared to drill in Ivar Aasen area of North Sea

Lundin Norway has authorization from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate for a wildcat well in the central Norwegian North Sea.

OSLO, Norway – Lundin Norway has authorization from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate for a wildcat well in the central Norwegian North Sea.

TheIsland Innovator will drill well 25/10-12 in production license 625, which comprises southeastern part of block 25/10. The location is roughly 5 km (3.1 mi) northeast of the Hanz oil/gas discovery, part of the current Ivar Aasen field development.

This will be the first well on the license, which was awarded early last year underNorway’s APA 2011 round.

In the same region, Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has approved Lundin’s request for further exploration drilling in PL501, which contains theJohan Sverdrup field.

The semisubmersibleBredford Dolphin will drill well 16/3-8S and perform production testing. Operations are due to start this month and last for around 45 days.
