HARTLEPOOL, UK – Construction of the first platform structure for the Cygnus gas field in the UK southern North Sea is nearing completion at Heerema’s fabrication yard in northeast England.
The 1,640-metric ton (1,808-ton), 23 x 23 x 10-m (5 x 75 x 33-ft) Cygnus Alpha wellhead topsides is leaving the fabrication hall of Heerema Hartlepool’s Victoria Dock facility. Additional work, including installation of the platform crane, mechanical completion and commissioning activities, will be completed on the dock side.
Operator GDF SUEZ E&P UK and partners Centrica Energy and Bayerngas contracted the yard last year to build three topsides, a compression module, two bridges, and a flare tower for the fourCygnus platforms.
Heerema is also working on the 4,400-metric ton (4,850-ton) process and utilities topsides for the Alpha platform and the 3,500-metric ton (3,858-ton) wellhead topsides for the Bravo platform, both due to be delivered during the first half of 2015.
Cygnus is 150 km (93 mi) offshore the Lincolnshire coast, with 2P reserves of around 18 bcm (636 bcf). First gas is slated for late 2015.
The field is being developed with two drilling centers, four platforms, and an initial 10 development wells. Gas will be exported through the ETS subsea pipeline system to the Bacton gas terminal on the North Norfolk coast.
