HIGH WYCOMBE, UK – GDF SUEZ E&P UK has contracted Yokogawa Europe Solutions to supply integrated control and safety systems (ICSS) for the Cygnus gas development in the southern UK North Sea.

The package will provide process control, process shutdown, emergency shutdown, fire and gas detection (with associated field devices), process data history, and field device asset management capability.

Specifically, the ICSS will feature Yokogawa’s CENTUM VP process automation system, ProSafe-RS safety system, Exaquantum production management solution, and PRM asset management package.

Additionally, the company will supply an operator training system using the OmegaLand advanced operator simulation environment, also serving as an engineering tool to confirm changes in control strategy.

The ICSS will be distributed across the Cygnus complex, comprising four offshore platforms, providing fully integrated and seamless control and safety functions for the facilities, along with a single interface allowing operators to start, control, and monitor all facilities from a central control room.

Three platforms will be bridge linked (Alpha WHP, PU, and UQ) with a second remote drilling center on the fourth platform (Bravo WHP). Gas will be exported through the ETS subsea pipeline system to the Perenco Bacton Gas Terminal in North Norfolk on the English east coast.

Cygnus contains 18 bcm (636 bcf) of proven and probable reserves on blocks 44/12a and 44/11a. Production is expected to start in late 2015.
