GAC completes rig tow to India

GAC Sri Lanka has completed the transfer of Hercules Offshore’s drilling rig Hercules Triumph from the port of Trincomalee to India.

TRINCOMALEE, Sri Lanka – GAC Sri Lanka has completed the transfer of Hercules Offshore’s drilling rig Hercules Triumph from the port of Trincomalee to India.

After four days of servicing, the rig was towed by two tugs, theSCI URJA and the SCI Ahimsa, more than 700 nautical miles to Kakinada, India, where it is anchored, ready to start drilling operations for Cairn Energy at the Ravva oil field offshore India. 

GAC Sri Lanka chartered the two tug boats and theMahaweli to off-land the Hercules Triumph from the heavy-lift vessel Target at Trincomalee Anchorage. The company worked in close liaison with the Harbor Master and port officials throughout the operation.

Additionally, GAC provided its own supply boats to take crew and other personnel to and from the rig, along with provisions, stores, fresh water, and bunker fuels for the rig and anchor-handling tugs. It was also responsible for domestic air transfers of Hercules Offshore officials to and from the site.
