STOCKHOLM, Sweden – The semisubmersible Island Innovator has spudded an exploration well on the Torvastad prospect for Lundin Norway.

Well 16/2-20S is on license PL501, north of theJohan Sverdrup discovery in the central Norwegian North Sea.

The location is around 7 km (4 mi) northwest of well 16/2-12 which confirmed an oil-filled Jurassic reservoir in the northern part (Geitungen) of Johan Sverdrup.

Lundin’s goal is to investigate the presence, quality, and depth of potential Jurassic reservoir sequences in this area, and possible communication with Johan Sverdrup. Main uncertainties are the depth of potential reservoir level, reservoir thickness, and the oil/water contact.

Drilling is estimated to take 55 days.
