STOCKHOLM, Sweden – The semisubmersible Bredford Dolphin has spudded Lundin Norway’s latest appraisal well on the Johan Sverdrup structure in the Norwegian North Sea.
Well 16/5-4 is on the southwestern part of the discovery in license PL501. The main aims are to establish the depth, quality, and thickness of Jurassic reservoir sequences 4 km (2.5 mi) southwest of dry hole well 16/5-2S, and 3 km (1.8 mi) southeast of the successful 16/5-3 appraisal well drilled in PL502.
In addition, Lundin expects to prove the existence of a producible oil zone and garner information for the planning of oil production from the southwestern part of Johan Sverdrup.
Planned TD is 2,075 m (6,808 ft) below mean sea level. Drilling is expected to last around 45 days.
This is the first of two appraisal wells in the license this fall, with an exploration well also planned on the Torvastad prospect.
