NEW DELHI, India –ONGC has recorded three new gas discoveries offshore India.
Exploratory well KGOSN041NANL-2 was drilled in NELP block KG-OSN-2004/1 offshore eastern India, around 21 km (13 mi) south of Narasapur. On test, Object-I, at an interval of 1,249-1,231 m (4,098-4,042 ft), flowed 66,601 cu m/d (2.35 MMcf/d) of gas through a ¼-in. choke.
This was the fourth discovery on the block, following Chandrika South, Alankari, and Saveri. ONGC is aiming for a cluster development.
In the western offshore Kutch basin, exploratory well GK-28-9 was drilled in the eastern fault block of the GK-28 structure in the GK-28 PML concession. On test, Object-I, at an interval of 1,251-1,249 m (4,104-4,098 ft), flowed gas from the Nakhatrana formation. This discovery should help the company reassess resources in the fault block east of wells GK-28-1 and GK-28-2.
In the same basin, the GK-42-3 well was drilled northeast of discovery well GK-42-1 in the eastern fault block. The aim was to upgrade reserves and assess the potential of the Jakhau reservoir established through the original well.
During testing, Object-II at an interval of 1,276.5-1,274.5 m (4,188-4,181 ft) within the Nakhatrana formation flowed gas. This find should help reassess estimates in the fault block east of well B-42-1.
