NEW DELHI, India – India’s Oil & Natural Gas Corp. (ONGC) (NSE: ONGC, BSE: 500312) has notched two shallow water discoveries this year offshore India.

Exploratory well Alankari # 1 was drilled in NELP block KG-OSN-2004/1 in the KG shallow offshore basin to a depth of 1,912 m (6,273 ft).

The 1829.5 - 1832 m (6,000-6,010 ft) interval in the Mio-Pliocene Godavari clay/Ravva formation tested gas at a rate of 144,780 cu m/d 5 MMcf/d) and condensate at 1.6 cu m/d (10 b/d).

The location is south of Narsapur, Andhra Pradesh state, 7 km (4.3 mi) from the coast in a water depth of 21 m (69 ft). This was the second gas discovery in the block following Chandrika South # 1.

Another exploratory well, GSS04NAA#1 in NELP block GS-OSN-2004/1 in Saurastra offshore, Western Offshore basin, was drilled to a depth of 4,887 m (16,033 ft).

The Mesozoic-age interval 4795.5 - 4784.5 m (15,733-15,695 ft) tested gas at 40,606 cu m/d (1.4 MMcf/d) through a ¼-in. choke. ONGC says the sub-basalt location provides a very significant lead to explore further sub-basalt Mesozoics in the area.

The discovery was southwest of Dwarka, Gujarat state, around 90 km (56 mi) offshore in a water depth of around 100 m (328 ft).
