OSLO, Norway – Dolphin Drilling has negotiated contracts for two wells offshore northwest Europe for the semisubmersible Blackford Dolphin.

Following mobilization from Brazil and completion of its five-year class survey, the rig is due to start drilling the first well in the UK sector early next year for MPX North Sea.

Subject to regulatory approvals, it will drill the second well for Capricorn Ireland, a subsidiary of Cairn Energy, next spring offshore westernIreland. This will appraise the Spanish Point gas/condensate discovery on exploration license FEL 2/04 in the Porcupine basin.

The total contract duration with the two clients is estimated to be five months, with a total value close to $67 million.

Ireland’s Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources has approved Cairn’s farm-in as operator to FEL 2/04 and FEL 4/08, with a further licensing option covering 2,753 sq km (1,063 sq mi) in thePorcupine basin.
