LONDON – The drillship Stena DrillMax has spudded the Starfish-1 exploratory well in the Accra block offshore Ghana.
Water depth is 1,500 m (4,921 ft) with a target depth subsurface of 3,850 m (12,631 ft). According to operator Ophir Energy, the well is designed as a play-opener to test a stratigraphic onlap trap, which could hold reserves of 292 MMboe. Drilling is estimated to last 40 days.
This is the company’s first operated well offshore Ghana. It plans to test four new plays offshorevarious parts of Africa over the next 12 months, in addition to its ongoing exploration and appraisal program offshore Tanzania.
