CHENNAI, India – Reliance Industries has put back exploration drilling on the D3 block offshore eastern India to early 2014.

In March, the company presented to the block's Management Committee a work program that included drilling one well this spring and another by year-end. However, rig availability constraints have forced a postponement.

Partner Hardy Oil & Gas says the block’s Phase 1 exploration period can be extended up to December 2014.

The joint venture has been working on various geotechnical studies, including interpretation of pre-stack depth migration data. The aim is to assess the potential of the eastern part of the block and to high-grade drilling prospects, including testing deeper play types.

A revised proposal for the Dhirubhai 39 and 41 gas discoveries, submitted in 2012, remains under review. The plan calls for a dry gas, subsea cluster development with flexibility to add in additional wells and to include a possible adjoining area of discoveries.

The D3 license over the KG-DWN-2003/1 block covers 3,288 sq km (1,270 sq mi) in the Krishna Godavari basin, 45 km (28 mi) offshore. Water depths range from 400-2,200 m (1,312-7,218 ft). Reliance operates in partnership with BP and Hardy.
