Hurricane Energy has secured a rig slot for an appraisal well on its Lancaster oil discovery west of Shetland.

GODALMING, UKHurricane Energy has secured a rig slot for an appraisal well on its Lancaster oil discovery west of Shetland.

Transocean’s semisubmersibleGSF Arctic III is expected to begin drilling and testing work on Lancaster this summer. SPD will provide well construction and project management services.

Lancaster was discovered in 2009 and further tested the following year. The structure spans blocks 205/21a, 205/22a, and 205/26b on Frontier License P1368. RPS Energy Consultants estimates 2C recoverable contingent resources at 207 MMboe.

Neil Platt, Hurricane’s COO, said: “This is a significant milestone for Hurricane as we look to progress our work on the Lancaster asset and refine our approach to how it will be developed.”
