ABERDEEN, UK – The semisubmersible Transocean Barents has started to drill the Albert prospect in production license PL 513 in the Haltenbanken area of the Norwegian Sea.
Maersk Oil Norway operates the well, in partnership with Dana Petroleum.
Albert is a gas/condensate prospect in the Cretaceous Lysing formation. The well is planned to a depth of 3,500 m (11,483 ft) and is expected to be completed by end-January.
In the event of a commercial discovery, there is production infrastructure nearby for a potential tieback.
John M. Dahlen, managing director Norway for Dana, said: “This is the last well in Dana’s four-well drilling campaign in Norway for 2012. In Albert we will test the same reservoir types which have proven hydrocarbons in the adjacentSkarv, Marulk, and Snadd fields. A discovery in Albert will also open up for further investigation several adjacent prospects in neighboring licenses held by Dana.”
Southeast of Albert isVictoria, one of the largest undeveloped gas fields on the Norwegian continental shelf.
