TEHRAN, Iran – Gas production from the South Pars field in Iranian waters will surpass output from the North field extension on the Qatari side, according to Pars Oil and Gas Co. managing director Mousa Souri.
This should happen, he claimed, after the current South Pars development phases12, 15, 16, 17, and 18 come onstream, adding nearly 200 MMcm/d (7.06 bcf/d) of sour gas output. Currently Iran produces 300 MMcm/d (10.5 bcf/d) from South Pars.
Souri added that seven new offshore rigs should start operating on the field by March 20, 2013. Iran’s Oil Ministry aims to have eight more rigs in service by mid-September.
The shared South Pars/North Dome structure covers an area of 9,700 sq km (3,745 sq mi), of which 3,700 sq km (1,428 sq mi) are in Iranian territorial waters.
