BREDA, the Netherlands – Dockwise subsidiary Fairstar Heavy Transport has ordered a new Type 1 offshore transportation vessel, which will be named White Marlin.

Following discussions with the fabrication yard in China, Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), the original contract for a Type 2 vessel has been renegotiated with an attendant cost increase of roughly $40 million.

White Marlin will have a capacity and capabilities similar to Dockwise’s existing Blue Marlin vessel. It is due to be delivered in 4Q 2014 at a total cost of $150 million.

The decision to build a Type 1 vessel removes Dockwise’s requirement towithdraw another Type 2 vessel,Black Marlin, from service in order to convert it to a Type 1 to satisfy growing demand for larger vessels.

Fairstar’s newly builtFinesse has been unveiled at LongXue Shipbuilding, LongXue Island, in Nansha District, China. This is a semisubmersible heavy Type 2 transport vessel, 216 m (708 ft) long and 43 m (141 ft) wide, capable of transporting cargo of up to 50,000 tons. It is due to be delivered at the end of November.
