LONDON – The jackup Atwood Mako has spudded a new exploration well for Salamander Energy (LSE:SMDR) in the Greater Bualuang area of the Gulf of Thailand.

The B8/38-8 (NW-1) well is testing one of numerous fault terraces northwest of the Bualuang oil field. Salamander Resource has identified a potential 10-15 MMbbl of reserves in a cluster of prospects to the north of the field.

Drilling of the current well should last about 14 days.

Construction of the Bualuang Bravo platform is finished, and load-out, sail-away, hook up and commissioning should start later this month. A 16-well development drilling program is planned from the platform, which should sharply increase production from the Bualuang field in 2013.
