STAVANGER, Norway –The Snøhvit partners have decided to stop work on a possible capacity increase for Melkøya because the current gas discoveries do not provide sufficient basis for such an expansion.

The partners spent the last 18 months looking at alternatives for expanding the gas export capacity at Melkøya in order to accelerate gas production from Snøhvit.

Work now will turn to optimizing and upgrading the existing Melkøya LNG facility and moving forward on phases 2 through 4 at Snøhvit. The Snøhvit work will include development of Askeladd and a future compression station. Installation of five new subsea templates and 12 production wells are planned.

Partners in the development are Statoil (36.79% and operator), Petoro (30%), Total E&P Norge (18.40%), GDF SUEZ E&P Norge (12%), and RWE Dea Norge (2.81%).
