ABERDEEN, UK – TAQA has spudded the Contender exploration well in the UK northern North Sea block 211/22a.

The extended reach well is being drilled from theNorth Cormorant platform, targeting the Jurassic Brent sequence at a projected MD of 16,900 ft (5,151 m).

Following a farm-out agreement last year, TAQA earned a 60% operating interest in the block by committing to 100% of drilling costs. If there is a commercial discovery, TAQA will also incur initial completion costs, subsequently recovering these from production revenue.

Bridge has a 4% interest. Other partners are Dana Petroleum, Antrim Resources, and First Oil Expro.
