TEHRAN, Iran -- National Iranian Offshore Oil Co. (NIOOC) is working on a series of modeling and seismic acquisition programs in the Oman Sea and Persian Gulf.

One of these studies is examining the origins of hydrocarbon-bearing rocks and movement of oil and gas in these regions since the Paleozoic era. This project, currently close to the halfway stage, draws on the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry and various other Iranian and foreign research centers.

Last yearNIOOC started a major 3D seismic acquisition program, covering the Arash, Farzad B and A, Chavosh, and Sirri L fields. More activities are planned over the Reshadat, Tosan, and Alfa fields, said NIOOC managing director Mahmoud Zirakchianzadeh.

Additional operations are lined up forareas near national maritime boundaries, and the company is looking to perform its first 4D seismic operations on the Abouzar field. The offshore Soroush and Norouz fields too were under consideration for 4D work, Zirakchianzadeh added.
