MOSCOW – Petronas Carigali (Turkmenistan) has awarded Eurasia Drilling Co. (EDC) a contract extension for the Saturn jackup.
Effective from Jan. 9, 2013, the rig is contracted for a further three‐year period in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea. The rig has been working for Petronas in the region since 2003.
In June 2012Saturn achieved the milestone of working continuously for five years without a lost time incident.
The Class CS MOD V (Keppel FELS B2427) rig was built in Baku in September 2000. It can drill in water depths of up to 107 m (351 ft), with a rated drilling depth capability of 7,986 m (26,200 ft) and a BOP system rated to 15,000 psi (1,034 bar).
Saturn is managed by the Turkmenistan branch of BKE Shelf Ltd. in Ashgabat.
Edward Redd, senior vice president, offshore operations for EDC, said: “We are adding drilling capacity with two additional newbuild jackup rigs being offered to our customers starting early 2013 and late 2014.”
