LONDON – Apache Corp.’s Mbawa-1 exploration well offshore Kenya has reached a TD of 3,151 m (10,338 ft), according to partner Tullow Oil.
The well, in the L8 license area, encountered about 52 m (170 ft) of net gas pay in the primary target, but there were no hydrocarbons in the deeper, secondary target.
Apache is running wireline logs, and plans to P&A the well.
Tullow Exploration Director Angus McCoss said: “This is the first hydrocarbon discovery offshore Kenya and gives a clear demonstration of a working petroleum system. Although the deeper targets at this location were unsuccessful, these results will be vital in evaluating the still significant prospectivity of this block.”
