Seadrill gets three-drillship commitment from major operator

HAMILTON, Bermuda – Seadrill (XOSL:SDRL) has a commitment for contracts covering three drillships over 19 rig years with a potential value of $4 billion. The deal is with an unnamed major oil company.

West Auriga and West Vela are under construction at Samsung Shipyard in Korea. The newbuild units will transit to the Gulf of Mexico upon delivery from the yard, scheduled for late February and May 2013. Operations are scheduled to start in September and December 2013. Each rig will be equipped with 1,250- ton load capacity, an active heave compensated subsea construction crane, and two seven-ram blow out preventers.

The specific third rig is yet to be named.
