Marathon pitches plan for Bøyla in North Sea

Marathon Oil and its partners have submitted a plan for development and operation of the Bøyla oil and gas field in the Norwegian North Sea.

STAVANGER, Norway – Marathon Oil and its partners have submitted a plan for development and operation of the Bøyla oil and gas field in the Norwegian North Sea.

Bøyla is in block 24/9 in license PL 340, 28 km (17.4 mi) south of the Marathon-operatedAlvheim field. The discovery was made in 2009, and subsequent subsurface evaluation and appraisal drilling demonstrated commercial volumes, with reserves of 23 MMboe.

The field will be developed as a subsea tieback to theAlvheim FPSO with two production wells and one water injector. Partner Lundin Petroleum estimates the total investment at $867 million.

Production is scheduled to start in 4Q 2014. Bøyla’s crude will be commingled with the Alvheim blend and exported via shuttle tankers. Its associated gas will be exported via the Alvheim-SAGE pipeline to the UK.

Marathon has a 65% interest, Lundin 15%, and ConocoPhillips 20%.
