ROME – Eni could push forward development plans for a cluster of small gas fields in the northern Adriatic Sea off eastern Italy, according to Mediterranean Oil & Gas (MOG).
The company is a partner to Eni in theGuendalina development which came onstream last year. The location is 70 km (43 mi) south of four undeveloped gas discoveries, in an area in which MOG has a 15% interest.
Development activity for these fields has been frozen since 2001, pending resolution of local concerns about the environmental impact of offshore development in the region.
However, in 2009 Italy’s government indicated it was in favor of a positive resolution of these issues, MOG says. A portion of the A.C 19.PI concession is within 12 mi (19 km) of nature reserves, and therefore may be affected by the2010 nearshore E&P restrictions introduced by the government following the Macondo incident. The majority of the fields, however, are outside the 12-mi (19-km) boundary.
MOG expects Eni to review the status of the concessions and then present a field development plan.
