WINDSOR, UK – Centrica Energy has produced first gas through its Ensign platform in the UK southern North Sea.

TheEnsign field, 80 km (50 mi) from the English east coast, was discovered by Shell in 1986, but over two decades passed before technologies became available for a commercial development.

In this case, Centrica Energy Upstream has applied hydraulic fracturing to the tight gas reservoir.

Heerema Hartlepool in northeast England built the platform, comprising topsides and jackets both weighing around 400 tons (363 metric tons).
