Strong uptake for EDC Caspian jackup drilling rigs

MOSCOW –Eurasia Drilling Co. (EDC) has issued a brief update on its Caspian Sea activity over the past year.

InFebruary 2011 the company acquired the jackup Saturn (ex-Trident 20) from Transocean. Under EDC’s ownership, the rig has since drilled two new exploration wells with four side tracks, and performed four workovers.

EDC’sAstra jackup was fully employed in the Kazakh and Russian Caspian sectors. Following a period of paid standby, three wells were drilled including an extended test on one of the wells.

Platform-drilling operations continued on Lukoil’s Yu. Korchagin field in Russian sector, with EDC drilling three horizontal development wells, performing one workover, and drilling three top-holes for extended-reach wells.

Construction of the company’s new Super 116E jackup by Lamprell in the UAE remains on schedule.
