BASRA, Iraq – Oil loading operations have reportedly started from a new floating single point mooring (SPM) facility offshore southern Iraq.

State-owned South Oil Co. commissioned the platform from Australian engineering contractorLeighton.

The oil is being loaded onto a Maersk-owned tanker.

A new terminal complex under construction in Basra will provide more than 3 MMb/d of new export capacity, eventually allowing Iraq to double its current production.
