KUALA LUMPUR -- Leighton Offshore has won a $733-million EPC contract from Iraq’s South Oil Company for construction services in and around the Persian Gulf. The project is designed to enhance export facilities from the Fao Terminal near Al Basrah.
The contract forms part of the Iraq Crude Oil Export Expansion Project (ICOEEP) which is developing offshore loading facilities to allow exports of 4.5 MMb/d of oil from Al Basrah.
Leighton’s scope includes:
• Installation and commissioning of two 48-in. (122-cm) parallel pipelines, 10 km (6.2 mi) onshore and 40 km (24.8 mi) offshore, linking the new Fao onshore terminal to three new offshore single-point moorings (SPMs); around 20 km (12.4 mi) of infield pipelines; and the shore crossing for a third pipeline to be installed during future expansion phases.
• Installation of the SPMs and associated subsea pipeline end manifolds (PLEMs), capable of receiving and loading Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) tankers.
• Fabrication and installation of a 600-metric ton (661-ton) subsea valve manifold for directing flow between the existing and future offshore export facilities.
• Dredging works to prepare for pipeline burial and to achieve sufficient water depth for VLCCs mooring to the SPMs.
• Construction and commissioning (including civil, mechanical and electrical works) of new onshore metering and manifold facilities at the Fao terminal.
Leighton Offshore will employ its Eclipse, Stealth, and Mynx vessels on the project.
Among the company’s recent SPM projects are crude oil export SPM’s on India’s west coast for Bharat Petroleum and Bharat Oman Refineries, and the three SPM Terminal project for Reliance at Jamnagar.
