Noreco begins drilling Eik prospect in Barents Sea

The Transocean Barents has spudded an exploration well for Norwegian Energy Co. (Noreco) on the Eik prospect in the Barents Sea.

STAVANGER, Norway – The Transocean Barents has spudded an exploration well for Norwegian Energy Co. (Noreco) on the Eik prospect in the Barents Sea. Well 7228/1-1 is being drilled in license PL396, around 200 km (124 mi) northeast of Norway’s North Cape.

Partners are Front Exploration and Petoro.

Lundin Norway has permission from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill a further appraisal well on the Johan Sverdrup discovery in the Norwegian central North Sea.

The semisubBredford Dolphin will drill well 16/2-11 Aas a side track from appraisal well 16/2-11 in production license 501.

The location is 660 m (2,165 ft) northeast of well 16/2-11, 6 km (3.7 mi) southwest of the 16/2-6 oil discovery well, and just beyond 2 km (1.2 mi) southeast of well 16/2-8.

This will be the eighth well drilled on the license.
