OSLO, Norway – BP has exercised an option to extend its maintenance and modification contract with Aker Solutions MMO offshore Norway. This relates to the Ula, Valhall, Skarv, Hod, and Tambar fields.

The extended contract runs through April 2014, with an estimated value in the range $140-211 million. The original maintenance and modification contract was signed in 2005.

Aker’s scope of work includes maintenance support services and brownfield modification projects covering engineering, procurement, fabrication, and offshore installation.

Currently around 200 people work on the contract in Stavanger, 20 in Egersund, and 300 offshore.

The overall aim is to increase oil recovery and extend the fields’ lives. Valhall, which came onstream in 1982, is expected to produce until 2050.
