LONDON – The Mindou Marine 1 exploration well off Republic of Congo (Brazzaville) has not encountered hydrocarbons, according to SOCO International.

The well was drilled in the Marine XI block, reaching a total measured depth of 3,515 m (11,532 ft). Target reservoirs were carbonates and sandstone of the pre-salt TOCA and Djeno formations.

SOCO’s next well in its current program will target the Cretaceous interval above the salt layer on the Marine XIV block. This is targeting resources of 40 MMbbl, and should take around 30 days to drill.

The final, contingent well will be either a 70 MMbbl Cretaceous target in the Marine XI block, or a follow-up appraising the Vandji potential in Marine XIV.
