HOUSTON – SMIT, sendit, llc, and Alan C. McClure Associates, Inc. are introducing a new floatover solution for spar and TLP platforms based on proprietary procedures developed by sendit.

The solution includes a floatation component of shipbuilding design commonly performed in shipyards around the world. It is used for transportation, installation and becomes the permanent structural component of the completed platform.

There is no requirement for cargo barges or specialized installation vessels. The topside can be transported from a fabrication facility on a heavy lift transportation vessel, offloaded and left afloat in a protected location awaiting towing to the installation site.

Tor Persson, president of sendit, says that the use of this solution alleviates the requirement for heavy lift vessels as the spar and TLP substructures can be installed by lesser capacity vessels. The installation can be performed in seas up to 10 ft (3 m) as the limiting factor is the selection of the heave compensation. The mating operation is estimated to require less than 12 hours.
